When I wrote an article about the Republican National Convention, I was hesitant to write about the Democratic National Convention, which occurs from August 19th through August 22nd. The reason was that I knew at the time that there was a strong likelihood that President Biden would not be on the ticket. I had a gut feeling, and it had to do with Pluto. When Pluto entered Aquarius back in January for the second time, I thought about the people who had Pluto in Leo in their birth charts at the early degrees. Having a transiting Pluto opposition to a natal Pluto is quite rare due to the 248-year orbit cycle. Pluto's orbit around the sun is elliptical, or oval-shaped, and tilted, making it unique compared to the nearly circular orbits of most other planets in our solar system. Because of its different orbit, Pluto can be in a sign anywhere from 12 to 31 years.
Pluto was in Leo from 1938 through 1957. Pluto is the planet of power and transformation. Generationally, the Leo energy granted those born during this time an emphasis on power and fame, and a heavy influence on our culture and institutions. Leo is bold, dynamic, and performative, and some may say it has an air of royalty. They tend to hold onto the reins well past retirement age and have a hard time letting go of the limelight. So when Pluto moved into the first couple of degrees in Aquarius, I knew it would be making an opposition to some of our political power players. Aquarius is about the masses, new ways of thinking, innovation, technology, and being ruled by Uranus, it can be surprising, unexpected, even rebellious. The opposition occurring in the charts challenges the natal to make a choice—longevity or legacy. I saw Biden choosing legacy over longevity, meaning that he would hand over his power for the greater good of the people, which for this generation could be considered revolutionary. Granted, he had some reluctance to do so, but I saw him passing the torch to Kamala Harris. (This is why I wrote the article on the two Vice Presidential candidates and published it three hours before Biden made his announcement.)
Now that I’ve covered the first reason for my delay, I will discuss the second reason, which actually ties into the first. There is a coalition behind the scenes in the Democratic Party that wants to retain power and is having a difficult time understanding that it is time to turn over the party to new leaders. They tend to see themselves as the ones who know how to run things, which is true in one sense—they did know how to handle politics and elections 20, 30, and 40 years ago. But the times are a-changin' (a reference here to Bob Dylan, born with Pluto in Leo). Information is instantaneous. I tend to learn more about what has happened in the last few hours on apps like TikTok than on AP News. Overall, in comparison to the current state of the GOP, the Democrats have their act together, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t friction. Elders who had a much stronger voice (and yes, I am referring to Nancy Pelosi) are not comfortable with the independence of Vice President Harris, even though Harris is much more attuned to the American voters. Let’s just say there are Democratic power players who want the same old dog and pony show for the convention, as opposed to something fresh and relatable.
I took a look at the Democratic Party’s birth chart to understand the organization and its roots. I used the date and time of May 21, 1832, at 12:00 PM with the location of Baltimore, MD, USA, the start of the first convention. Since we don’t have an exact start time, my focus was not on the houses. At the time, Andrew Jackson was running for re-election as President. Since the role of President was already locked in, the Democrats were only nominating the role of Vice President, which went to Martin Van Buren. The Jackson-Van Buren ticket won the election, and in the following election, after Jackson had served two terms as President, Van Buren succeeded Jackson in the role of President.
Here is what I find fascinating in the RNC natal chart: Mars and Uranus were in conjunction, and they lost their first Presidential bid. During the 2024 Republican Convention, Mars and Uranus were in conjunction and in the same sign as the natal chart—the sign of Taurus. The DNC natal chart has Mars and Jupiter in conjunction in the mutable sign of Pisces. The 2024 Democratic Convention also has Mars and Jupiter in conjunction in the mutable sign of Gemini. This pattern of Mars aligning itself with the big energy of Jupiter for the Democrats and Uranus for the Republicans is indicative of the energy of the two parties. Democrats tend to be optimistic, sometimes overly so, to where their confidence comes off as superiority or elitism. Republicans tend to stoke the fire and thrive on shocks and fears.
Knowing the influence of Uranus, we saw its influence in July. The start of the Republican Convention this year was launched by an erratic and tragic event—the shooting at Trump’s rally. It is safe to say that Jupiter will be a major force for the Democratic Convention. The energy is about optimism and expansion, but how it sits with the population will depend on whether the old guard gets its way with Jupiter squared to Saturn or if fresh and relatable takes center stage with Jupiter squared to Venus. Regardless, there will be lots of action with Jupiter’s conjunction to Mars, and if Harris and Walz stand firm, the electricity of the convention could catapult a renewed sense of optimism throughout the country.
There has been some discourse among astrologers that the dates selected for both conventions are not the best astrologically. Honestly, when I looked at the dates last year, I felt the same. However, upon closer examination, I think they were meant to be—there is a karmic lesson here for both parties, as well as the American people. Though astrologically we can have challenging transits, that doesn’t mean that we are trapped or doomed. We can change course since every aspect has a duality. It is our free will to choose how to manage or transform the energy that we encounter.
When I compared the birth chart of the DNC and the 2024 convention, it was not lost on me that the Democratic candidate is our current Vice President and that the natal chart of the DNC was to elect only the role of Vice President and not the President. Mars conjuncts Jupiter approximately every 2-3 years, so this isn’t an uncommon event. Yet, throughout the almost 200-year period of the DNC’s inception, this upcoming convention will be the first time that Mars and Jupiter are in conjunction during the convention. And, it is remarkable that this current conjunction is also in a mutable sign. I have projected Kamala Harris as our next president for the past two years; at first, it was just a psychic knowing. But the more I dig into the astrological charts, it feels karmically driven.
No matter what you think of the United States, we can’t ignore that historically we’ve had many missteps. The first three words of the constitution are “We the People,” a strong statement that sounds like inclusivity. But there are many citizens who can attest that they or their ancestors were not included. How we, as a nation, treated the native population, immigrants, indentured servants, and the capture, trade, torture, and abuse of enslaved peoples is part of our country’s Chiron wound. Before the 1970s, we were not aware of Chiron. Once discovered, we have used this placement to explore our own personal wounds. I expect that over the next decade, we will begin to focus on collective wounds.
In the United States’ Sibley Chart, i.e., the birth of the nation, Chiron is in the sign of Aries. Aries is the sign of the self and independence, befitting that we call July 4th, 1776, Independence Day. In the DNC Natal Chart, Chiron is in the sign of Taurus, which represents our values and what we possess. Currently, Chiron is in Aries but will ingress into Taurus on June 19th, 2026. Chiron will then go into retrograde later in the year before entering Taurus a second time at the beginning of 2027, in which it will stay in the sign of Taurus until July 19th, 2033. With Harris and Walz both having Chiron in Pisces—the sign of everyone and everything combined—I can see a concerted effort to make changes to help heal the wounds of our collective past, not just in this lifetime but ancestrally as well. There will be pushback, but until we work on the pain of the past, we will struggle as a nation to achieve the goals of the Constitution, which is: “to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense [and] promote the general Welfare.”
Following are the major transits during the convention with the overarching energy and how it will impact both Harris and Walz.
The convention starts off with the Leo Sun and Mercury in Retrograde, squared to Uranus in Taurus. Yes, Uranus, that pesky, unpredictable planet that can be anything from pure exuberance to an upsetting annoyance. Expect delays, disruptions, traffic jams, issues with equipment, and other setbacks outside of anyone’s control. People will be thinking on their feet, with lots of mental energy to get things done.
For Harris: All of Harris’ inner planets are impacted except for Venus. She will take action—there is no political speech here. When she makes promises during the convention, she intends on keeping them. Her energy is high, but she may feel a bit overwhelmed because she knows that obstacles are there, trying to prevent her from doing what needs to be done.
For Walz: With Walz, his Venus is conjunct to Uranus, meaning that his views of women are progressive. He is comfortable being Vice President to Harris.
Also, throughout the convention, we have a T-square with Venus in Virgo squared to the Gemini Mars-Jupiter conjunction and in opposition to Pisces Saturn. Most of the energy of this T-square will play out behind the scenes of the convention. The old guard of the Democratic Party will try to restrict the progressive speakers and possibly even Harris and Walz. The Mars-Jupiter conjunction has an air of electricity throughout the convention. It is optimistic and charged with energy and action. This is why I previously stated that there may be multiple women musical performers at the convention. Venus in opposition to Saturn is about service to the people—which includes everyone. Saturn in retrograde is about taking responsibility for the health of the nation.
For Harris: This aspect is impacting Harris’ Uranus, Pluto, and Venus in Virgo, and her Pisces Chiron. The experience of the convention is transformative for her—no longer is she in the back seat. She will own her womanhood, take risks, and assume power. She will do things her way, and stepping into her own energy will be healing for her. Her nodes are also being activated—she is aware that she is living out her destiny.
For Walz: Venus is conjunct to his natal Pluto, and his transformation and healing depend on him taking a supportive role for women, with Saturn conjunct to his natal Chiron.
The Moon plays a pivotal role as the convention starts off with a Full Moon in Aquarius. A Full Moon is the conclusion of a cycle. Ruled by Aquarius, the focus is on the future, shifting away from tradition. Some may have internal struggles, and there could be emotional tension or conflict. Again, this is the energy I see behind the scenes—some Democratic power players will struggle with realizing their irrelevance. The Moon is also in opposition to Leo Mercury in Retrograde. There will be discussion on how women have lost their rights and a reflection on how we got to this point in history.
For Harris: The Full Moon is highlighting her stepping up, taking responsibility for the path forward since it is conjunct her Saturn in Aquarius. The Moon is also making trines to her North Node, Sun, and Mercury, and a sextile to her Moon. What you see in front of you is what you are going to get—she is not putting on a show; she is her authentic self.
For Walz: The Full Moon illuminates Walz’s Saturn in Pisces. He takes responsibility for his actions. The Moon is also in opposition to his Uranus—his feelings will seem otherworldly to him on this day, especially with the sextile to his Jupiter. If he sheds tears on opening day, I will not be surprised.
The last day of the convention, the Moon is in Aries and conjunct the North Node. This is about taking our power back and fulfilling our life’s path. Intuition is heightened, and there will be an emotional connection to the past, present, and future.
For Harris: The Moon will trine her natal Mars in the evening. Her emotions will drive her actions.
For Walz: The Moon will conjunct his natal Sun, and his emotions will reflect his persona.
The Sun ingresses into Virgo on the last day of the convention. We go from the electricity and fire of Leo to a realization that there is still a lot of work to do. The theme will be “what needs to be done to help out the people who are not being serviced by our country.”
For Harris: Her thoughts, emotions, and energy are high, and she is positive about the next steps forward.
For Walz: He is ready to take on the task at hand and step up to his new responsibilities. He may have an unusual approach, but his values and words will connect him to Harris, the campaign, and the citizens of the United States.
Also on the last day, Leo Mercury in Retrograde is sextile to Gemini Mars and trine to Aries Chiron. This is about taking action on our individual and collective wounds, thinking of ways to make things better, and looking to the past to create a better future. There will be lots of passion to make changes and to ask the right questions of the constituents. This is great energy for meaningful engagement.
For Harris: Throughout the convention, she is focused on the actions she will take. She is looking back at her experience and her knowledge of the key players. She knows that there are a lot of people counting on her, and she has to go around obstacles to make things happen. She may look a little tired at the end of the convention, but she is ready to go and become President of the United States.
For Walz: What he speaks will be truthful. Even with his larger persona, he will say it like it is. Though he never aspired to be Vice President, he is looking back on his career, and it makes sense for him to be part of the campaign.
As we approach the Democratic National Convention, the alignment of transits, nodes, and the natal charts of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz suggests that their representation of the Democratic Party is not merely a matter of chance but of karmic significance. The astrological influences at play indicate a powerful alignment between their personal destinies and the broader trajectory of the party and the nation. Harris and Walz embody the transformative energy needed to navigate the challenges ahead. Expect lots of enthusiasm, especially from women and younger members of the Democratic Party. Considering the birth of the nation, the beginnings of the DNC, and the past decade, there is a destined feeling about what lies ahead. We needed a shift from restrictive energy to hope and optimism. This convention has the potential to deliver the change we need.

Fascinating and hopeful read on VP Harris and Gov Walz's chances of winning in November. My Pluto is smack dad in the middle of Leo at 15 degrees. But I've never sought out the limelight as I'm a highly sensitive introvert who has hidden from public view, although now I'm starting to stick my head out a bit to let the light shine on it as I begin to take back the power I've given away over the years.
VP Harris' nomination does feel karmic to me. I think this country has finally reached a point at which having a woman take on the role of President is "okay," where it simply hasn't been conceivable in the past. A big part of it is the Dobbs decision which took away a fundamental right from half the country's population. Did the Supreme Court think we'd just shut up and take it? Heck no! They just gave a big boost to women standing up and saying, "We're not going to take it anymore!" That decision gave a huge boost to the rise of the Divine Feminine out of the ashes and muck of patriarchy. It reminds me of the Black Power movement back in the '60s and '70s when we could finally "Say it loud, we're Black and we're proud!"
I will be covering Pluto in Capricorn in my next articles. Honestly, I haven't done a deep dive yet but I expect we will see old institutions attempting to flex some power. We could see at least one world leader either step down or pass away, but in essence, it will be a bumpy transition as the "old" transforms into the "new."
